The tensile-strength test is innately destructive; at the time of the process of collecting data, the sample is obliterated. Although this is acceptable when a safe supply of the material is available, nondestructive procedures are better for materials that are costly or difficult to fabricate or that have been shaped into completed or semicompleted samples.
